Anthony Medico Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Graniteville on Mar. 18, 2026.
Mr. Anthony Frank Medico, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the age of 67. Anthony was a resident of Graniteville, South Carolina, at the time of his passing.

Born on September 22, 1958 in Boston, Massachusetts, Anthony was the son of the late Josephine (Innello) Medico and Peter Medico, Jr.

Left to cherish his memory along with his wife Dianne (Burden) Medico of 40 years and sister Mary (Medico) Gaffey (David) are his children Maghen Phillips (Chris), Andrew Medico and Matthew Medico. Anthony was also Grandpi to four grandchildren Chase Lathrop (Katherine) of California and Alexis (Lathrop) Hernandez (Alex), Jaeden Lathrop and Jack Phillips of Georgia, along with two great-grandchildren, Avery Hernandez and Evelyn Hernandez, also from Georgia. Additionally, he is also survived by two nephews and numerous cousins.

Anthony was a life-long resident of Massachusetts, until hemoved to Florida in 2018 to be closer to his father, Peter and help take care of him. Peter and his late wife, Josephine would escape the southern heat in Florida by spending the summers in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, with Anthony and his family. Anthony moved from Florida to South Carolina in 2024 to be closer to his daughter, Maghen and her family which included his grandchildren. At that time, Peter, now in his 90's was part of the eight-hour drive to relocate from Florida to South Carolina, so Anthony could continue to help with his care.

A proud veteran, Anthony served his country with honor in the United States Army. After his military service, he worked security at Boston Garden, then worked in financial services at State Street Bank. He ended his career working at several branches of the YMCA in Stoughton, Massachusetts and Riverview, Florida, where his passion was teaching children and adults with disabilities how to swim and be safe in the water. After retirement, he wanted to keep busy and productive, so he joined a volunteer emergency team that assisted the local ambulance company in Sun City, Florida. He left the volunteer opportunity to have more time to care for his dad.

Anthony had a passion for Boston Sports teams, that included the Boston Bruins, the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics, but especially the New England Patriots, where he got to see them win six Super Bowl Championship titles. This was made even more special by the tradition of watching the Super Bowl with his 3 best friends, Bill Hall, Joe Hurley and Fran Barry. The tradition continued in 2019, when Bill, Joe and Fran traveled from Massachusetts to Florida to still watch the game together, and that year the Patriots won the Super Bowl!

Anthony was very active in his two son's activities. He coached Little League and Pee Wee football and also served as a Scout Leader for many years, when his two sons were involved in scouting. To recognize his outstanding contributions in helping guide and lead numerous Scouts achieve the highest rank of Eagle Scout, he was awarded the Order of the Arrow, which is the highest recognition a Scout Leader can attain.

Anthony and his wife Dianne loved to spend time together, especially if it was for DIY projects, ranging from outdoor landscaping to indoor home improvements. If it was something they thought they could do, they would do it together. Some memorable DIY projects included installing a half bathroom, creating and installing a custom closet system, refinishing furniture and building planter beds. In retirement, taking long walks together with their son Matthew's dog, Ozzy and taking day trips to explore Florida and South Carolina brought them great joy.

Anthony was also an avid bike rider and enjoyed being on the water, whether swimming and teaching his children and grandchildren how to swim, or boating at Borden Light Marina. His boat was named "My Poopsie", which was his affectionate name for his wife, Dianne. He also loved to travel with family and visited Arizona, Virginia, Hawaii, Italy, Germany and many Caribbean Islands on several cruises with his wife, Dianne. But his all-time favorite travel destination was Disney World, where he could enjoy being a kid with his children and grandchildren. Anthony has several prized Disney memorabilia items that he proudly displays to remember his travels.

Anthony will be remembered by his generosity for helping others and his devotion to life-long friendships. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, to honor Anthony's love of dogs, the family requests donations be made to: Friends of the Animal Shelter, Aiken, SC https://www.fotasaiken.org/donate/make-a-one-time-gift/

The family will greet friends on Thursday, March 26, 2026, beginning at 2 PM at St. James Lutheran Church, 200 Laurel Drive, Graniteville, South Carolina 29829, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 3 PM.
