Stockham Family Funeral Home - McPhersonDavid Wayne Mapes, born in McPherson, Kansas to Edward Mapes and Katherine Goad, passed away peacefully at his home in Newton on August 17, 2025. He graduated from Sterling High School and was a jack of all trades, spending most of his career as a truck driver before becoming a dispatcher for Simmons Transport LLC.
David was a diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan and never missed his WWE/WWF wrestling nights. He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed attending sporting events and recitals for his grandchildren whenever he could.
David is survived by his children, Derrick Mapes and Alysha Meade; his mother and father, Charles and Katherine Brown; his sisters, Vida, Kim, Kay, Gwen, and Darline; and his brothers, Chris, James and Jeremy. He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Mapes, and his father, Edward Mapes.
A celebration of David's life (come & go) will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, September 12, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be given to help the family with final expenses by using the crowdfunding link found on this page or by sending checks to Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
David's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
