Mr. Marrs passed away on November 8, 2025, in Dallas.
David Monroe Marrs was born on October 27, 1947, in Denison, Texas, to Clifford Jerald Marrs and Gladys Myrtle (Sandlin) Marrs. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps and honorably served four years during the Vietnam War. In 1966, David married Sharon Kay Tramel. He was self-employed as a lightweight concrete and commercial building contractor, contributing to projects including the construction of the Texas Rangers Stadium. David was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing. He also had a passion for playing craps and gambling. Known for his love of Hershey's M&M's and lemondrops, he earned the nickname "Popeye" and was often seen smoking his pipe at the local VFW. Above all, he cherished raising his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Paw Paw." David will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Charles Ray Marrs; two brothers, Jerald Marrs and Gary Don Marrs; and sister-in-law, Karen Marrs.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Marrs of Athens; his children, Brian Marrs and wife Shania of Kemp and Johnathan Marrs and wife Katrina of Athens; his siblings, Donna Marrs Webb and husband Ronnie of Burleson, Debbie Turner and husband Joe of Alvin, and Clifford Ray Marrs of Fate; his grandchildren, Tyler Marrs, Travis Marrs, Madison Marrs, Payton Marrs, Jaslyn Marrs, Clifford Marrs, and Tristan Marrs; and his great-grandchildren, Arabella, Kingston, Krystaleigh, Brynlee, Corban, River, and Dakoda.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Marrs, Johnathan Marrs, Clifford Marrs, Payton Marrs, Travis Marrs, and Tristan Marrs.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 1-2:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home prior to the service.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
