David Martell, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 71, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.
David was the fourth of ten children born on July 8, 1953, in New York City to Merida and Adrian Martell. Growing up in a lively household, he developed a passion for sports and music that would stay with him throughout his life.
In August 2021, David moved to Florida to embark on a new chapter filled with hope and optimism. He brought a radiant spirit that could light up any room, and his infectious laughter and remarkable sense of humor made him a joy to be around. David was not only thoughtful and caring to everyone he met, but he also cherished his family above all else. His tenacity and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
David met his wife, Myrna, at the World Trade Center in NYC, and they married on December 18, 1987. Together, they raised two children, David Jr. and Carey Martell, creating a home filled with love and support. He is also survived by his two other children, Liza and Nadia Martell, and his beloved dog, Dexter, who was his constant companion. David is mourned by his mother, Merida Martell, and his siblings: Efrain, Adrian, Carlos, Luis, Milagros, Sarai, Migdalia, Minerva, and Richard.
A proud veteran, David served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from March 28, 1979, to January 19, 1983. Following his military service, he dedicated approximately 33 years to his career as Vice President of Operations for a janitorial company, where he was known for his strong work ethic and leadership.
David's joy for life was reflected in his favorite pastimes, which included watching football, hockey, and boxing, enjoying movies, and listening to music with his family. He found happiness in the simplest moments, whether walking with Dexter or sharing a meal surrounded by loved ones. His playful sayings, like "cut the cake," "tres domingo," and "it is what it is," still resonate with those who knew him.
David actively participated in community activities, particularly at the Veteran's Hospital, where he connected with fellow veterans and shared his warmth and support. As we gather to celebrate David's life, he would remind us to cherish one another, embrace love, and always find joy in laughter. He would want us to celebrate his life and support each other with hugs, love, and smiles.
David Martell will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on, in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
