David Burroughs Mathis, born on January 4th, 1928, in Ashville, N.C., and passed away on July 27th, 2024 at the age of 96. He was baptized at First Lutheran Church, Ashville, and grew up in a Christian home. The family moved to Atlanta, GA where he graduated from Boys High School and attended Emery University. He married Margaret Force and had 3 sons and a daughter. The family moved to Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX, where he worked in office machine sales and sales management. The family stayed close to the church where David served in many positions and taught adult Sunday School and other courses for 40+ years. Margaret went to be with the Lord after 25 years of marriage.
He was a member of Kiwanis Club and held many positions with a perfect attendance for over 25 years.
David moved to Orlando, married Isabel "Honey" Horton Mathis in 2007, and together they had 14 years of a blessed and happy marriage living in Charlotte, NC, until she passed onto Jesus on August 7, 2020.
He is survived by his sons David K. Mathis and Alan Mathis, 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter.
His memorial service will be held at St. Marks Lutheran Church, Charlotte, on Saturday, September 7, at 1:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, David requested donations to the music department at St. Marks Lutheran Church.
