David "Dave" Spencer McCollum, 71, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024, in Council Bluffs Iowa. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eldwin McCollum and Hazel McCollum, Sister Cathy Millage, and brother, Michael "Mike" McCollum. He is survived by his former wife, Jeannine McCollum of Council Bluffs, IA, son Timothy McCollum (Samantha) of Council Bluffs, IA, daughter, Brenda McCollum of Tabor, IA. Dave was born in Hamburg Iowa on August 25, 1953, to Eldwin McCollum and Hazel May McCollum (Study). He married Jeannine Ann Klien at the Bartlett church on March 2, 1974. They moved to Oregon after getting married and lived on the Umqua River near the mountains. It was beautiful there, but they missed their family and friends, so they moved back to Iowa. David worked at the Glenwood State Hospital for a couple years. On October 22, 1975, they were blessed with their first child, Timothy Allen McCollum.
In 1976 they moved to Schyler, NE where Dave worked at Land of Lake Packing house for 5 years. While there they were blessed with their 2nd child, Brenda Leigh McCollum on July 7, 1978. They again retuned to Iowa and Dave went back to working at the Glenwood State Hospital. They lived in Bartlett, IA and eventually bought a home in Thurman, IA where they owned a dog kennel and sold A.K.C. dogs.
Dave and Jeannine eventually divorced and remained friends. Dave remained in Bartlett, IA. He enjoyed playing spoons, working around the yard, entertaining his friends, and listening to loud music and having a good time. Dave loved to be around people and help anyone he could that was in need. He was a one-of-a-kind person and will be missed by many.
There will be a Celebration of Life from 12:00 to 3:00 PM Saturday, November 16, 2024 at the Bartlett, IA Community Church. There will be no viewing or visitations. Private disposition of ashes will be at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorials will go to the family. The Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, IA is in charge of arrangements.
