David McCoy Obituary

David "Amos" Joseph McCoy, formerly of Elmwood, IL and Carlyle, IL, passed away peacefully on the island of St. Thomas. Affectionately known as Amos, he loved his family, friends, and the great outdoors.
David was born in Peoria, IL on Oct 2, 1962 to J. Larry and Rosemary (Swanson) McCoy. He attended Elmwood High School, graduating in 1980 before attending ICC and moving to Carlyle, IL to pursue land surveying. He married Kathy (Laux) on September 28, 1996 in Carlyle.
He worked most of his life as a land surveyor, first in Centralia at Curl and Associates and then HMG in Carlyle. Later he started his own company Prairie State Land Surveying in Carlyle. He traveled around the country seeking adventure by hunting big game, fishing, and meeting new friends. Amos settled in St Thomas VI and started Advanced Methods of Surveying (AMOS) on St. Thomas VI, where he began his life with his partner Rosa.
Amos leaves behind his partner Rosa Rios; his father, Larry McCoy of Elmwood, sister Diana (Todd) Langbartels of Austin, TX, brother Patrick (Tammy) McCoy of Elmwood; sister Erin (Brent) Gick of Lebanon, Ohio, daughter Hope Pollmann (Tim Funderburk) and grandchildren Sophia, Abram and Mia of Eureka, along with many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Kathy (Laux) McCoy and daughter Anne Pollmann; mother Rosemary McCoy, brother Daniel "Bus" McCoy.
Cremation has been accorded and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
