David was born on May 4, 1930, in Minden, Louisiana. He was the first born of 10 children. He was preceded in death by his parents Almer & Agnes McGee, siblings Willie McGee, Almer, Jr. (Shakey)McGee, Melvin McGee, Emmer McIntosh, Sessa B. Flournoy, and Roger McGee.
David graduated from Webster High School, which was the African American School there during those times. Shortly after graduating, he decided to leave Minden and try life in the big city-Kansas City, MO. He eventually met and married Frances Harris, and they enjoyed life together for 51 years.
David joined the United States Air Force and served his country for four years. After his years in the Air Force and attending college, he became a mechanical engineer for the United States Post Office. While at the post office he became the Bowling League President for some time. He retired from USPS after 42 years of service. David, natural leader, lead the KC-Boys Scout for some time. He was also the Neighborhood Director of the Rec-Center of Parker Square. At St. Marks Presbyterian Church he served as a Decon, Sunday School Teacher, and President of the Church Counsel. David was an active member of St. Paul Presbyterian before his health no longer allowed him to be.
David was an avid reader and lover of jazz music. He was known for his "philosophical sayings" and love for learning. He leaves to mourn his wife, Frances McGee and children Raymond McGee, Oliver McGee, Melinda McGee, Felicia (Mickey)Jones, and Tracy Campbell (Daniel), grandchildren, Heather Snoderly (Jake), siblings Lucky Johnson, Mary Francis McGee, John McGee (Bernestein)-and many grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones who will never forget their kindness and smile.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, 11am at Watkins Heritage Chapel. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery, LVNKS. Visitation from 10am-11am at the chapel. Services conducted by Watkins Heritage Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
