MELLARD, JR. David Loyless
David Loyless Mellard, Jr., 89, widower of Mary Lena Sineath Mellard, died on Wednesday, May 11, 2011. The relatives and friends of David Mellard, Jr. are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Saturday, May 14, 2011 in The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 1393 Miles Drive, Charleston, SC at 9:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC NORTH AREA CHAPEL, 2119 Dorchester Road, North Charleston on Friday, May 13, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Born April 19, 1922, in Charleston, SC, he was one of three sons of David Loyless Mellard, Sr. and Bessie Boynton Mellard. He was a US Army veteran of WWII and a graduate of The Citadel. The majority of his business career was with Cooper River Federal Savings and Loan Association. Mr. Mellard was an active member of St. Peters-By-The-Sea Episcopal Church since his youth and was presently a member of The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. He served both in many capacities. He was an avid runner who completed the Cooper River Bridge Run for 25 consecutive years and the Boston Marathon at age 65. Mr. Mellard is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Meadows and her husband, Jim; his son, David L. Mellard, III and his wife Mary Nell; five grandchildren, Edward James Meadows III and his wife Pam, Mary Beth Meadows Estes and her husband, Joey; Amy Mellard McCready and her husband Bill, Mary Ann Mellard McPheeters and her husband, James, and David L. Mellard IV; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brothers, William and Robert.
