Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 6, 2016.
DAVID LEE MICHAELS David L. Michaels was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on June 12, 1940, the son of John Michaels and Irene (Cook) Lucas. He graduated from Minneapolis Edison High School and attended the University of Minnesota. On November 22, 1958, he was united in marriage to Sydney Prestwood, his longtime high school sweetheart and best friend. The couple owned and operated a restaurant/bar in Hanover, Minnesota. They moved to Alexandria in 1975 when they purchased the South Dairy Queen. They owned and operated the Dairy Queen for 25 years. Their next business venture was building and operating two convenience stores outside of the Alexandria area. The couple continued to reside in Alexandria. Dave was a man with many and varied interests. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson, for many years making trips to the rally in Sturgis. He was a car enthusiast, enjoyed four-wheeling, camping and loved to travel. Dave and his three sons enjoyed many years of pheasant hunting trips to Chamberlain, SD, leading to a special bond throughout their lives. Dave was grateful for all the years he was able to spend with his wife Sydney, on vacations and at their home in Mazatlan. He had many friends and enjoyed spending time with them. Dave died unexpectedly on Monday, September 10, 2012, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the age of 72 years. He is survived by his wife, Sydney Michaels of Alexandria; sons David (Jane) Michaels of Alexandria, Steve (Debi) Michaels of Cambridge, and Daniel (Suzanne) Michaels of Cambridge; grandchildren Allyson (Micah) Radach, Erin (Shane) Seidel, Luke Michaels, Zach Michaels, Hank Michaels, Claire Michaels, and Axel Michaels. Also surviving are great-granddaughters Lylah Radach and Rhea Radach as well as brothers Warren (Juanita) Michaels of San Antonio, TX, John Michaels of Blaine, and sister-in-law Sharon Terry of Falmouth, Maine. David was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gayle. Visitation will be held from 11:00am-1:00pm on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Alexandria, Minnesota.
