David Minnix Obituary

MINNIX, David

David Prior Minnix lived from September 22, 1982, until January 4, 2024- a full life, too short. He died from complications brought on by pneumonia and subsequent heart failure. David is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hagan of Atlanta and three little girls who were the delight of his life: Lucinda age 7, Isadora age 5 and Lillith 18 months. Also surviving are his parents Kathleen and Larry Minnix of Avondale Estates, his brother John and wife Laura and their three children, Elise, Sam and Will. He leaves four lifelong friends: Alex Remington, David Young, Paul Vandenberg, and Robert Kaufman, his business partner. Plus, his beloved rescue dog, Bella.

David is remembered for five achievements: a beautiful family, business success built on ethics and compassion, philanthropic spirit, sense of humor, and skill with the Big Green Egg. His signature wardrobe included black tee shirts inscribed with funny sayings. He said he would wear only black until someone made something darker. David and Robert founded a specialized tech company called Cinemassive Displays which they sold in 2021. They created a unique office development called " Indie" in the Armour-Ottley Loop near their other properties, and were investors in the restaurant group, Victory Brands.

In an interview upon recognition as one of Atlanta Business Chronicle's "40 Under 40", David said that "business has a responsibility to be a shelter in the storm." During Covid, "I believe that my business was that for many of my employees." While their company lost business, most of the Cinemassive employees never lost a paycheck.

David and Elizabeth also invested in historic preservation by restoring the 1880's Foster-Thomason-Miller in Madison, Georgia, in collaboration with the Morgan County Historical Society. David had personal ties to the house, as it was built on the footprint of the Georgia Female College from which his great-great grandmother, Eliza Prior, graduated before the Civil War. That restoration was just completed and is being lauded for its attention to historic detail.

David's philanthropy included children's education, elderly individuals without family, and the people of rural Honduras.

David was an intense personality with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed creative April Fool pranks and irreverent improv comedy.

There will be a private graveside service this week, followed by a celebration of life to be announced in the coming weeks. open to friends, relatives and colleagues.
