David Charles Mitschelen, age 55, of Austin, Texas, passed away suddenly at home on March 6, 2025. He was born on November 3, 1969.
David is survived by his partner of 23 years, Adam Fambrough. He was the youngest child and cherished son of Charles and Patricia Mitschelen, and a loving brother to Sherri (Fuson), Laurie (Luebcke), and Mary (Butler). He was preceded in death by loved sister Diane (Chupp) and his father Charles. David also leaves behind many deeply loved nieces and nephews.
David grew up in Mishawaka, Indiana, but his heart longed for warmer climates. He made his dream a reality by moving to Texas, where he embraced the sunshine and heat. The Texas summer was never too hot for David; he thrived in it.
Above all things, David loved his family and his dogs. His lifelong dream was to own a farm where he could provide a sanctuary for countless dogs, ensuring their care and well-being. David's passion extended beyond his love for animals; he was a man of strong convictions, known for his spirited debates and unwavering dedication to his beliefs. He enjoyed engaging with others and exploring different perspectives. David had a deep appreciation for music, especially the iconic sounds of Stevie Nicks and Annie Lennox, loved to dance, and found immense joy in laughing with friends.
"Up the stairs and down the hall, and not to find an answer, just to hear the call of a nightbird singing, 'Come away' (Come away, come away)." These words from "Edge of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks, reflecting a sense of yearning and a call to something more, resonated deeply with David.
David was a unique individual that touched many people over the years.
A memorial service will be held in Osceola, Indiana on Tuesday, March 18th at 11 am at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy, Osceola, IN 46561. Services in Osceola will be officiated by his "brother" Ken Chupp.
A memorial service will be held in Austin, Texas on Saturday, March 22nd at 11 am at Life in the City UMC, 205 E Monroe St, Austin, TX 78704.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Austin Pets Alive (APA) in David's memory. The last three dogs David and Adam adopted came from APA.

I found out last month about your journey to Heaven by someone we worked with at ALH. I'm so sorry. I would've gone to your service if I had known. God wanted His Angel David back up in Heaven. To dance, laugh, smile and love. I hope you visit me in a dream or send me a sign letting me know you are near. Know you are in my heart, David.
