David Lee Murray, age 89, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, in Lansing, Michigan. Born on February 21, 1936, in Plainwell, Michigan, David was the beloved son of the late Laurence A. Murray and Hazel (Loveland) Murray. His life was defined by service, dedication, and deep love for his family, friends, and country.

David grew up in Battle Creek and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1954. Even before finishing school, he demonstrated a strong sense of duty by enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, serving honorably from 1953 to 1961. His military service remained a source of pride throughout his life.

Professionally, David's work ethic and leadership were evident in every role he took on. He began his career with A&P Food Stores in West Michigan, where he became a respected manager. He later brought his entrepreneurial spirit to Murray-Gorthy Real Estate in Mt. Pleasant, where he made meaningful contributions to the local community. Eventually, he found his calling as the general manager and owner of the Green Door Lounge in Lansing, which he ran for many years with passion and hospitality.

David's interests reflected his vibrant personality. He was an avid golfer and a talented cook who loved sharing meals and memories with those he loved. A loyal fan of Michigan State University and Detroit sports teams, David's enthusiasm was infectious and unwavering.

More than anything, David was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Helene (Garske) Murray, and his children: Dawn (Gary) Pyles, Jennifer DeKam, Juli Otterbine, Carol (David) Eaton, and Katie (Jeff) Vanliew. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Jason, Angela, David, Tyler, Jacqui, Abbigale, Simon, and Quinn; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind brothers-in-law Charles and Rick Beardsley, who held him in the highest regard.

David was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Ramona Moyle Wright, Russell "Bud" Murray, and Janet Phelps.

Those who knew David remember him as loving, kind, and selfless-a man whose presence brought comfort and joy. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, and his memory will be cherished always.
