David L. Nedrow, 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2026. With a humble heart, an endless work ethic, and a wonderful sense of humor, David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who left a lasting imprint on every life he touched.
He was born on January 17, 1948 in
Mansfield, Ohio to the late Willard and Betty (Wymer) Nedrow. As a boy the family moved to Shelby, Ohio where David attended and graduated from Shelby High School.
On March 9, 1967 David married the love of his life, Diana Gibson, and the couple went on to share 58 wonderful years of marriage built in love, hard work, and deep-rooted family values until her passing in February of 2025. Now they are reunited again in Heaven.
With such a strong work ethic between David and Diana, the couple spent over 40 years on their 69 acre farm, where they spent countless hours tending to the land, their animals, and making endless memories for their children and grandchildren. Several business ventures stemmed from their time on the farm, but most notably was the firewood company, Fat Dad's Firewood, which he enjoyed immensely. David also worked for General Motors for 30 years and retired as a WEMR.
David was a true outdoorsman who found his greatest joy under open skies. He loved cutting wood, hunting, fishing, and simply being outside, embracing the peace and purpose nature gave him. He also cherished traveling with his beloved wife, especially to Maine, which they visited 13 times together, along with memorable trips to Florida, the Outer Banks, Las Vegas, Washington, D.C., and fishing adventures in Canada, among many others. Whether exploring new places or relaxing at home with mellow classic rock playing softly in the background, David knew how to savor life's simple pleasures.
Known for his absolutely huge sense of humor, David delighted in making others laugh. He gave everyone affectionate nicknames, loved stirring up harmless mischief with his grandchildren, and found pure happiness in taking naps with babies - from his own children to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Above all, David loved his family and lived each day with a joyful purpose. He often said his goal was to make at least one person smile daily, and he achieved that effortlessly and often, leaving behind countless smiles, treasured memories, and a legacy of love.
He is survived by his loving children Darrin (Kelly) Nedrow, David J. (Chone Smith) Nedrow, Darla (Kenny) Alsept, Dusty Merkys, Darcy (Mike) Tenney, and Daniel Nedrow, grandchildren Kaeli (Michael) Jeffers, Alex (Sean) Twigg, Cole (Aundrea) Gehrisch, Travis Nedrow, Haven (Jake) Busch, Madison Carns, Zachary Carns, Brianna Nedrow, Anden Merkys, and Ella Merkys, great-grandchildren Aubrey, Aria, Amelia, Elliott, and Annalise, and brother Joel (Lynn) Nedrow.
In addition to his wife, David is preceded in death by his parents Willard and Betty Nedrow, and brother Jim Nedrow.
The family will honor and celebrate David's life privately, in the way he would have wanted - surrounded by love, laughter, and cherished memories.
