David Nelson Obituary

David Michael Nelson

May 17, 1956 - May 12, 2024

David Michael Nelson, age 67, of Georgetown, TX, passed away on May 12, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. David was born in Winston-Salem, NC, and graduated from North Forsyth High School and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. David was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earlie V. and Elsie Smith Nelson, and Frank and Stella Webster; as well as his mother, Kit Nelson Binkley; and his two younger brothers, Darrell and Todd Nelson. Surviving to cherish his memory is the love of his life, his wife, Judy; and his father, Jack Nelson (Becky); and his brother, Shane Beck, of Winston-Salem, NC. His children, Alicia Jones and William Jackson (Tasha); and granddaughters, Cali and Cady held a special place in his heart and remember him for the wonderful memories and mentoring. David is also survived by his mother-in-law, Barbara Morrison; sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Greg Testerman; sister-in-law, Kathy Tolliver; and very special friends, David and Teresa Reavis, of Winston-Salem, NC; along with many nieces and nephews. After college graduation, David began his long career with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company as a show car driver taking him all over the United States. His career progressed into sales with RJR/British American Tobacco ultimately taking him to Georgetown as key account manager for Walmart and Costco, where he met his bride, Judy. David was not an "all work and no play" kind of guy. He especially enjoyed photography, traveling, boating, fishing, golfing, and cars, so driving high performance cars and instructing others on track was a real passion. But David was happiest spending time with Judy and his family including his dogs, Olive and Piper. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church, in Winston-Salem, with Pastor Truitt Williams officiating. So sorry to read of David's passing. I met David in Mrs. Jarvis's kindergarten class in Rural Hall, NC. Back then, 1961, kindergarten was not offered in public education. David sat next to me at our table of four; we were the "green" team. He was such a kind and gentle kid. I remember Kit well, and am so sorry to hear that she too had passed away. David's father took many pictures of our kindergarten class and my favorites are David's birthday. I remember it being such a fun day. David remained the same kind person throughout our school years. My condolences to all his loved ones.
