David Norman Nicholson

Norman Nicholson , 85 of Sylva , N.C. went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 25 ,2025 at Skyland Nursing Home. 

He was born on November 18, 1939 in Cullowhee , NC . He was preceded in death by his parents Hobart Nicholson and Mae Middleton Nicholson , brothers Furman, Lyman, Jim, Quinten Nicholson and sisters Bernice Prince ,Louise Mann ,Wanda Massie. And his loving wife of 45 years Leona "Nana" Mathis Nicholson. 

Norman was born and raised in the Caney Fork community where he enjoyed being with family and friends. He retired from Dayco manufacturing after 30 years of service . He then went to work for Mountain Projects where he retired after 22 years . 

Norman is survived by his daughter Stephanie Jones of Sylva and son, Russell (Becky ) Nicholson of Sylva ; grandchildren, Anthony Nicholson ( Landy), Justin (Rachel )Nicholson , Jacob Nicholson (Melissa) and, Heather Nicholson (Logan); and four great grandchildren; special friend Daisy Henson ;sisters , Hobanette (Gene) Maynor of Cullowhee, NC; Paulette Hutchins of Eden NC , a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family. 

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2pm on Wednesday January 29, 2025, at Ochre Hill Baptist Church with funeral services following. Pastor Doug Mathis will officiate. Burial will follow at Ochre Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
