David Bruce Nimz age 76 of Duluth passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 29, 2025. He was born in Wausau, WI on February 17, 1948 to parents Wallace and Dorothy (Bielke) Nimz. There, he also met the love of his life, Rita Poeske. They lived in various parts of the country before settling in Duluth— where they raised their family. David earned his masters degree and worked for the Moose Lake School District EBD program. Summers off meant time spent fishing and boating on Lake Superior. Later in life, he found solace on his tractor in the woods building ponds and roads through his property. In retirement David became an avid reader. David was always comfortable alone, but if you got past his tough exterior he loved with intense passion. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rita; and parents, Wallace and Dorothy. David is survived by his children, Reid (Summer) and Abbie; grandchildren, Eddie & Edith Nimz, and Anna Roux; sister, Debbie (Dale) Tetzlaf; and his beloved dog, Maggie.
A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 1:00-3:00 pm at Dougherty Funeral Home 600 E Second Street, Duluth, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The Nature Conservancy - Minnesota Chapter.
