David Nordvik Obituary

David "Dave" P. Nordvik, 69-year-old resident of Royalton, MN, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Funeral Services held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January, 27, 2023, at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN with David Sperstad officiating. Burial at Riverside Cemetery in Royalton, MN. Visitation held from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday and from 10 to 11 AM on Friday at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls. Caring for Dave and his family is the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN.

Dave was born on March 9, 1953 in Minneapolis, MN to the late Wallace N. and Anne M. Nordvik. He grew up in Elk River, MN on the family farm. He was a graduate of Elk River High School class of 1971 and earned his B.S. in Business Management at St. Cloud State University. Dave married Julie Schlangen on January 7, 1978. Together they were blessed with five children. He worked as a salesman for various companies around the St. Cloud area and ended his sales career at Wolters Kluwer Financial, formerly Bankers Systems. For the last 7 years, he worked for Morey's Seafood. Dave also enjoyed his part-time paper routes for 28 years, mainly with the Star Tribune, but also the St. Cloud Times and various other newspapers.

Dave was deeply spiritual and a faithful follower of several congregations over the years. Most recently, he was a worshiper of the Faith Center Church and in the past had attended Grace Covenant Church in Little Falls, Becker Baptist Church and the St. Cloud Church of Christ. When he wasn't studying Bible scripture, he was spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted Vikings football and Twins baseball fan. Dave grew great gardens his whole life and especially loved flowers. Other hobbies include walking, running, tennis, bowling, and coin collecting. He was a history buff, an avid music fan and liked taking road trips. He knew life was about the journey, not the destination, so his frequent shortcuts always took longer than the direct route. Dave connected with everyone he met, as he was an inquisitive and caring man. His sense of humor will be remembered by all.

Dave's unconditional love and genuine smile will be dearly missed by his children, LuAnn (Lang Phommahaxay) Nordvik of Royalton, Linda (Kenneth) Aspan of Albuquerque, NM, Laurie (Matthew) Langer of Pierz, Paul (Adepeju) Nordvik of Brooklyn Park, and Lisa (Justin) Hauer of St. Cloud; grandchildren, James, Damian, Tifeoluwa, Roman, Anastazia, and Tiwaloluwa; brothers, Jim (Ardelle) Nordvik and Bill Nordvik; sisters, Kathy Frikken and Diane (Bevin) Mitchell; in-laws, Donna Zierden, Ben Witte, Kenneth (Laura) Schlangen, Allan (Suzanne) Schlangen, Dale (Janelle) Schlangen, Marlys Schlangen, and Jim Opatz; 44 nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Anne Nordvik; parents-in-law, Raymond and Irene Schlangen; brother, Robert Nordvik; sisters-in-law, Bernadine Witte, Rosemary Schlangen, and Sharon Opatz; brothers-in-law, Donnie Zierden, Vernon Schlangen, Eldy Schlangen, Patrick Schlangen, and David Frikken.
