David Eugene Padgitt, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully on October 1, 2023 at the age of 74. He was born December 22, 1948 in Marietta, Ohio to the late Betty and Eugene Padgitt. David's passing marked a bittersweet reunion as he was welcomed into the embrace of his parents in heaven.
Throughout his 74 years, David had a profound impact on the lives of many with his unwavering kindness and generosity. He was a man of remarkable character, well known for his strong work ethic, quick humor, and commitment to his friends and family. He volunteered as a fireman and EMT for the Warren Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was also very involved planning events for his high school graduating class, Warren High School Class of 1967.
In his professional life, David worked for the Ohio Department of Forestry as a Forest Fire Investigator for many years. During his tenure, he piloted the Smokey Bear program and educated children on the importance of fire safety.
David was also a talented welder and heavy equipment operator, which inspired him to own and operate his business "Dave's Welding" for many years alongside his wife. His experience and reputation in welding led him to his last formal position as Welding Program Director at the Washington County Career Center.
David is survived by his high school sweetheart, Mary Lou Padgitt (McAtee); his daughters Sheri (John) Wilson and Margo (Rodney) West; his brother Ron (Brenda) Padgitt; his grandchildren Karsen (Goldy) Bailey, Laykin Beardsley, Kaleigh (Josh) Hinton and Derek West; one great grandson Lowen Bailey and one future great granddaughter Brynlee Hinton; as well as many caring brothers and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents Betty and Eugene Padgitt.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 1 to 2 PM at Roberts Funeral Home, 27880 St. Rt. 7, Marietta, OH 45750. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to help the family with expenses. Online tributes may be made at www.robertsfuneralhome.com
