David Paull Obituary

David Albin Paull

1939 - 2025

- David Albin Paull, a devoted husband, cherished father, doting grandfather, great-grandfather and steadfast friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by those he loved. Born on September 5, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Charles George Paull and Flora Erickson Paull, David was the youngest of three brothers, preceded by Charles Armand Paull and Stephen Erickson Paull.

A graduate of Olympus High School, David pursued higher education at Brigham Young University (BYU), earning both his bachelor's and master's degrees. Throughout his life, David's unwavering faith and dedication to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were evident. He served his mission in Sweden and held numerous callings, including High Priest Group Leader and counselor in the Bishopric, fulfilling his responsibilities with humility and grace.

David's life journey brought him many blessings and milestones, including his first marriage to Kathleen Jensen, with whom he had two children, Stefani Kalen Martinez and Christopher David Paull. Though life led them on separate paths, David discovered his true professional calling in law enforcement. His remarkable career spanned roles at the University of Utah Police Department, the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department, the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, and ultimately the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), where he retired with distinction. A second chapter in his career saw him serving with the Board of Corrections before retiring a second time.

In 2006, David married Maurine Nelson on March 28 in the Salt Lake Temple, embarking on a new chapter of life filled with love and adventure. The two often marveled at how fate had not brought them together sooner, but they wasted no time making up for lost years. Together, they explored the world, reveling in experiences across all seven continents. Among their treasured traditions were annual trips to Bear Lake with friends, snowmobiling excursions in Yellowstone, tropical getaways to Hawaii, and cherished visits to Midway. David's deep love for animals made Africa a particularly special destination. Winters spent in St. George were filled with joy, games, shows, and outdoor activities, creating lasting memories alongside their wonderful friends and neighbors.

An avid golfer, David believed in being prepared for any round, keeping a shed full of clubs-just in case. Although he had to step away from the sport in later years, his passion for golf and the camaraderie it brought remained close to his heart.

David's quiet demeanor and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. A true gentleman, he embodied kindness, empathy, and thoughtfulness, never uttering an unkind word or passing judgment. His expressions of love and gratitude touched family, friends, and caregivers alike, serving as an enduring example of Christlike love.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Flora, his brother Steve, and his sister-in-law Brenda. He is survived by his devoted wife, Maurine; daughter Stefani (Miguel) Martinez; son Christopher (Tiffany); brother Armand (Susan); as well as his stepchildren: Randy (Marita) Strong, Jeff (Shannon) Strong, Rick (Jill) Strong, Mike (Melissa) Strong, Celeste (Bob) Williams, and Michelle (Brian) Dunlap. David leaves behind a legacy of love through his 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He delighted in celebrating their accomplishments in sports, dance, and music, embracing the joy of a large, thriving family.

David Albin Paull's life was a testament to love, faith, and service. His memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him.

Margaret and I were so lucky to find wonderful friends on our trip to Australia in 2014. Dave and Maureen were among those friends and we connected immediately and have continued to make an effort to get together. Paul was a man who was quiet but always interested in everyone. He had many health issues but you'd never hear from him about them. Loosing two husbands myself I send my deepest sympathy and empathy. Love to you all!

We met Dave when he and I reported to Albuquerque, NM in 1971 for employment with the Department of Justice. We stayed in touch and visited occasionally, as recently as last year with he and Maurine. We always enjoyed his kindness and very friendly attitude. Our sincere condolences are extended to Maurine and family!
