David R. Peña was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the age of 66. He was born on May 20, 1959, in Gonzales, Texas to Dolores (Rivera) and Jose Gonzales Peña. David was a hardworking and generous man who deeply loved his children, grandchildren, and family.
In his younger years, David worked as a driller in the oil field and dedicated 25 years of service before retiring. The last company he worked for was Patterson-UTI Energy. Known for his witty sense of humor, David enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. As a talented carpenter, he enjoyed taking them to play in the playhouse he built in his backyard. David also spent his retirement years working on small engine repairs to keep up with his skills.
David took great pride in keeping his yard well-manicured and tending to his peach trees. He loved driving around town in his cherished GMC Sierra truck, often honking at friends and relaxing at Independence Park. Always a jokester and a helping hand to anyone in need, David brought laughter and carried his kindness wherever he went.
David is survived by his loving wife, Irene Ramos Peña, his ten children Peggy (Ronnie) Lugo, Jennifer E. Peña, Krystal M. Goldie, Kimberly (Travis) Hancock, Amber (Robert) Luna, Jason (Shelley) Peña, David C. Peña, Jonathon Peña, Jeremy (Beatrice) Peña, and Joe David Peña. He was also survived by his sister Josephine R. Peña; and his brothers, Henry (Norma) Peña and Manuel (Mary Lou) Peña. David was also a proud grandfather to 21 amazing grandchildren, all of whom he adored.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Dolores Peña, his brothers Daniel Peña and Domingo Peña. As a devoted man of God, he cherished his family and his faith. His purpose on earth was fulfilled. David will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7
A visitation will be held at Seydler – Hill Funeral Home on Sunday, November 09, 2025, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, with a rosary being recited at 7:00pm. A Mass of the Resurrection will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers assisting will include Ronnie Lugo, Jr., Jason Peña, David C. Peña, Jonathon Peña, Jeremy D. Peña and Joe David Peña. Honorary Pallbearers are Manuel Peña, Jr. and Henry Peña, Jr.
