David Perkins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Honaker Funeral Home on Mar. 31, 2026.
Rev. David Allen Perkins, Sr., age 78, of the Clarks Valley section of Swords Creek, Virginia went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 30, 2026 at his home surrounded by family. Born August 30, 1947 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Marvin and Hattie Lou Havens Perkins. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a retired coal miner with over thirty years of service. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, pastor, and friend, he dedicated his time and energy to caring for his family, home, and church. He accepted the call to the ministry 54 years ago and gave his greatest efforts to follow the command of God given in 2 Timothy 4:2, "To preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine." He made full proof of the ministry God entrusted in his care as he led his flock at the Revival Center for 28 years. His faith never wavered, even as his health began to decline.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Perkins, Jason Perkins, and Charles Perkins; and one infant sister, Judy Carol Perkins.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Judy Perkins; three children, David Allen Perkins, Jr. and wife, Christie, Teresa Lynn Musick and husband, Mike, and Rev. Timothy Wayne Perkins and wife, Christy; seven grandchildren, Savanna McGlothlin and husband, Landon, Jared Musick and wife, Danielle, Allison Hillman and husband, Camden, Rebecca Perkins, Rev. Caleb Perkins and wife, Mahalia, Brianna Martin and husband, Casey, Isaac Perkins and wife, Julie, and Benjamin Sutherland; ten great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Macie, and Easton McGlothlin, Emma and Ava Musick, Blaze and Rayne Hillman, Oaklynn, Gideon, and Emeryn Perkins; seven siblings, Cornelia Justus and husband, Frank, Elmer Perkins, Lincous Perkins and wife, Evonne, Sally Reynolds and husband, J.W., Clifford Perkins and wife, Denise, Mary Lou Rasnake, and Gerald Perkins and wife, Rexanna; sister-in-law, Connie Perkins; several nieces, nephews and a loving church family also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Tommy Dye and Rev. Jason Nunley officiating. Interment will follow in the Perkins Family Cemetery in Clarks Valley.

UMWA honors will be conducted by UMWA Sub 28 Chaplain Corp.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The Men of Revival Center will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 PM Thursday at the funeral home, where an evening service will be conducted at 7 PM.
