David Arthur Plamann passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on February 23, 2025. He was 76 years old. Son of Merlin and Adeline (Reimer) Plamann. Dave was born on March 9, 1948 in Mobile, Alabama where his father was stationed. He married Barbara Brecklin on October 18, 1969 and they were married for 55 years, living in the Town of Ellington.
Dave was raised on the family dairy farm and was a farmer at heart. The oldest of four boys, when his father told him to explore the world outside the farm, he got a degree in Drafting from Fox Valley Technical College and eventually worked as a Service Technician for Wisconsin Electric Power Company until his retirement. His job at Wisconsin Electric gave him the vacation days and income to support his true passion: farming. Dave didn't care for the dairy cows, but he could sit on a tractor all day. Buying his combine gave him pure joy and he loved helping his two brothers and sister-in-law on the farm.
Dave's other passion was his family. With Barb, they had three children. Losing their first daughter, Elizabeth, shortly after her birth was challenging. The births of Kristi and Aaron completed the family and Dave was always the dad who could be counted on to throw the baseball after dinner or drive you to an early debate practice before school. He wanted his children to be kind, ambitious, and know how to drive a stick shift (if only barely). When he learned that he was going to be a grandfather, he accepted it with a smile, but didn't realize how completely bowled over he would be with love for his grandchildren. Nick, Eliza, Elliott and Evan were what he lived for. He spent his last weekends on this Earth watching his grandsons play tennis and basketball and dragging his grandson and granddaughter behind the Trekker on a sled.
Dave was active in his local parish, St. Patrick's, heading up the Finance Council, Building Committee and helping take care of the cemetery. He was always practical and could figure out a solution to any problem. Everyone knew that if they needed help, he
would be there.
Dave will be deeply missed by his wife, Barbara (Brecklin) Plamann; children, Kristine (Rob) Compton and Aaron (Leslie) Plamann; and grandchildren: Nicholas, Eliza, Elliott and Evan. He is further survived by his brothers: Larry (Mary Jo) Plamann, Keith (Gina) Plamann, and Roger Plamann; and brothers-in-law: Andy (Carolyn) Brecklin and George (Robin) VanZeeland. And by the many nieces, nephews, and great-nephews that called him Uncle Dave.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlin and Adeline Plamann; his daughter, Elizabeth; his sister, Debbie Plamann; his niece, Lara Plamann; his sisters-in-law, Mary Beth Brecklin and Mary Van Zeeland Fuller; and his brother-in-law, Bruce Brecklin.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Stephensville, Wisconsin on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Michael Thiel officiating. Visitation will take place at the church starting at 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. with the Funeral Mass to follow. Burial will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Stephensville.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the St Patrick Church Fund.
