David Frederick Pope passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 10:32 AM. He was the beloved son of Frederick Merrill Pope and Claire Ann Guitar (nee Schoeninger), both of whom he has now reunited with, along with his dear friend and stepfather, William Guitar
David’s legacy is carried on by his three cherished children, Kayla Pope, Connor Pope, and Emma Pope, who will forever hold his love in their hearts. He is also survived by his four devoted siblings: Wendy McDonald (William), Cynthia Duchild (Robert), Gregory Pope (Theresa), and Laura Meyerkord (Geoff), as well as his stepmother, Norma Pope. His family extends to include seven nieces and six nephews, not to mention countless friends.
Throughout his life, David was a kind and compassionate man. He found joy in the moments spent with his family and had a special bond with his beloved dog, Oreo. Known for his big heart and larger-than-life presence, David was always eager to lend a helping hand to friends and family, and always the first to arrive.
David was an extremely hard-working man and very generous. His silly sense of humor and sweet laughter brought joy to those around him. David demonstrated remarkable courage, strength and resilience, navigating life's difficulties as specially shown during the last months of his life.
David was baptized and confirmed in the United Methodist faith. David was a gentle soul that will be profoundly missed by all those who loved him. His memory will continue to inspire kindness and compassion in the hearts of many.
Services to celebrate David's life will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025. Friends and family are invited to gather at Newcomer Funeral Home, West County Chapel (Chesterfield), from 4:00pm until 6:30pm, with a Memorial Service beginning at 6:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to American Cancer Society or the Walk to End Alzheimer's Association in memory of Claire, his beloved mother (@Team Claire).
