David Powell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home from Jan. 14 to Jan. 15, 2026.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Powell, Jr., a man of exceptional strength and kindness, who left us on December 13, 2025. David was born January 24, 1980 in Fort Worth, TX to David Powell, Sr. and Cynthia Duffie. David lived a life filled with love, joy, and a courageous sense of humor that warmed every room he entered.
David Powell, Jr., attended high school in Cuero, TX. He later graduated from Woodsboro, TX where he was a state gold medalist in track and field, whose records have yet to be broken. David had a passion for food. He pursued that passion by attending culinary school at Le Cordon Bleu in Dallas, TX, where he obtained his degree in culinary arts and went on to become a skilled chef.
David is preceded in death by his grandmother Mrs. Ruby Jones, father, David Powell, Sr., Jimmy Powell, Jr., and Cynthia Powell; whose spirits are undoubtedly welcoming him with open arms. He is survived by a large and immense family including his mother Cynthia Duffie, brother, Marlon Powell and wife Sonja Powell, sisters, Stephanie Knox Davis, Danielle Powell, Erica Powell, Denesha Powell, Cassandra Duffie, Natasha Duffie, Markeisha Duffie, and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
David Powell, Jr. will be remembered for his boldness and zest for life. In the midst of our grief, we find comfort in the lessons he left behind. He taught us the power of strength in the face of adversity and the power of kindness in a world too often devoid of it. We will remind ourselves to uphold these values in honor of his memory. He will be truly and deeply missed.
