Joyce Lary Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hewett - Arney Funeral Home on Feb. 2, 2026.
Joyce Lary, 88, of Temple, TX passed away on January 31st surrounded by family. She was born on April 25th, 1937 to C.H. and Cillo Speer in Cameron, TX.

As a graduate of Temple High School, Joyce went on to take on many roles before landing a career at Western Auto where she would eventually retire from. It was there at Western Auto that she met her husband, Dickie Lary. Together, she and Dickie enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage. One of Joyce's greatest thrills was traveling and creating new memories with her beloved sister, Linda Kay. If Joyce wasn't traveling, you would find her sewing, crocheting or putting hundreds of photos perfectly into albums. Out of all the things Joyce enjoyed, nothing brought her more joy than her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and even great-great-grandkids. Joyce had a profound impact on all of their lives.

Joyce is survived by her husband, bother Bert Speer, sons Marc (Sandra) and Richard and daughters Julia, Celia, Sarah and Christina (Lee), along with 18 grandchildren, 22 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren plus nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Linda Kay Shumate, brother Melvin Jay Speer and her precious granddaughter, Megan Maxwell.

The family asks that you wear colors to remember Joyce. There was nothing more she hated than bland colors.

The funeral service will be on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 2 o'clock p.m. with Bro Harlan Haines officiating. The family will be accepting visitors at the funeral home starting at noon on Friday. She will be laid to rest beside her mother at Wilson Valley Cemetery in Little River Academy directly following the service.

Pallbearers: Marc, Richard, Daniel, Tyler, Joshua and Quay

Honorary pallbearers: DJ Neill and Shane Willis
