David E. Race, passed away at home on May 22, 2025. David was born on July 21, 1950 to the late Elmer L. Race and Mary Jane (Munkatchy) Race.
He was proud to have lived in Noxen for his whole life where he grew up, raised his girls, and enjoyed being a "pop" to his grandsons.
A graduate of Tunkhannock H.S. and a student of Wilkes College. He joined the 402nd Military Police (reservist), then found his niche as an electrician with IBEW, Local #163 member for 50 years. As an electrician, David dedicated 35 years of service to wiring many places in our area, some of which included the Salem Nuclear plant along with many schools in the valley. He loved telling stories of those days and he was able to fix anything. David loved the simple pleasures of walking around the field with his wife and fur baby, Buddy, feeling the sun on his face, laying in his hammock, and his greatest joy was supporting his grandsons anyway he could. Family was his life and he cherished every moment he spent with them. David was known to give his advice freely. His presence and guidance will be greatly missed by many. He was the family's go-to for sound advice in everything. As serious as he could be, he was also a real jokester! David will be forever loved and missed by his wife of 52 years, Sheila, daughters Sarah Longmore and husband Mark and Amanda Race. He was the proud grandfather to Dash and Rush Longmore, who brought immense joy to his life. David is survived by his sister Christine Montross, brother-in-law Mike Kopcha, niece Jana Hopfer, nephews Aaron Montross, Michael Jason Adamshick, Cody and Andrew Kopcha, cousins Billy, Jenny, Michael, and Matt Munkatcky, and many neighbors and friends that he considered family.
David had the kindest of hearts and the courage to face all obstacles.
Think of David and the memories you made with him, for he loved life and the people he shared it with.
As per his wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date.
