Obituary for David Francis Rakisits Sr.
David Francis Rakisits Sr., age 74, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, in Lancaster, California. He was born on April 15, 1951, in Glendale, California, to Julius and Irene Rakisits.
On December 11, 1976, David married the love of his life, Barbara, and together they shared 49 wonderful years of marriage. David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who found his greatest joy in his family. He is survived by his wife Barbara; his children Elizabeth (John) Bergman, Lisa Rakisits, David Rakisits Jr., Laura Rakisits, and Aimee (Scott) Steele; and his nine beloved grandchildren-Chloe, Connor, Mason, Cayley, Ivy, Walker, Aubree, Alex, and Ella.
David worked as a mechanic for the Metro Transit Authority (MTA) for 30 years, retiring in 2007. Known for his hard work, reliability, and generosity, David took pride in his craft and in helping others.
He found peace and happiness outdoors, especially while fishing for trout in Bishop, California. He also greatly enjoyed hunting dove, quail, and deer. David loved working on and rebuilding his caterpillar yellow 1952 Ford pickup truck - a true labor of love that reflected his skill, patience, and attention to detail.
Above all, David will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand, and his unwavering faith. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he loved serving those around him and exemplified Christlike love in his daily life.
A celebration of David's life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3140 W Avenue K, Lancaster, California 93536. The viewing will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A private family gathering and interment will follow.
David will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his legacy of faith, love, and kindness will live on through his family and all whose lives he touched.
