David Wayne Richard passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 22, 2025, with family by his side.
David was born on December 1, 1953, in Opelousas to Aaron and Versie Richard. He married the love of his life, Rhonda, on April 8, 1978. David was a loving and devoted husband, father, and brother.
A funeral service for David will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, September 25, 2025, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 6:00 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Friday at 8:00 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Brent Prados, Hunter Monte, Edwin Broussard, Bryan Monte, Owen Gill, and Rob Reed. Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Prados, Michael Prados, Wayne Reiners and Donnie Veazey.
David served his community as a Sergeant with the Louisiana State Police and worked for Farm Bureau as an insurance agent for many years. As an avid outdoorsman, David spent many hours hunting deer and duck. Fishing was another of his beloved pastimes. He also was a devoted sports fan, proudly supporting LSU with enthusiasm.
Survivors are his wife of 47 years, Rhonda Richard; his daughter, Brandi R. Marks; his son, Aaron D. Richard (Aric); his sister, Cheryl R. Schlomer; his father-in-law, Gene St. Germain; his sisters-in-law, Bonnie S. Prados (Michael) and Wendy S. Monte (Bryan); his niece, Megan Burns (Brandon) and his nephews, Hunter Monte, Brent Prados (Tori), Michael Prados (Amanda) and Blake Prados. He is also survived by his great-niece, Mae and his great-nephews, Zane, Levi, Beau, Chase and Noah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Versie Beaumery Richard; his son-in-law, Brad J. Marks; his mother-in-law, Lucille (Pookie) St. Germain and his brother-in-law, Edward Schlomer.
The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to his doctors and medical team.
David’s legacy will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his love for his family and friends. His warm presence and dedication to his passions will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
