David Rosenbaum Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
David L. Rosenbaum, M.D., passed away peacefully at the age of 104 on his 78th wedding anniversary. A pioneer in Family Practice Medicine, David dedicated more than half a century to medicine. He touched countless lives through his service, teaching, and community involvement.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Rose Rosenbaum; sisters, Claire Wolfson, Mitzi Speigel, Sara Garvis; brothers, Sam and Harry Rosenbaum; son, Richard Rosenbaum. David is survived by his beloved wife Joyce; sons, Steve Rosenbaum (Pamela Jameson), Easvan (Devi) Param, daughter, Cheryl Caponi and daughter-in-law, Virginia Rosenbaum; grandchildren, Renata and Rosanna Caponi, Arielle (Robert) Pennington and Michael Rosenbaum (Clara Davenport); great grandchildren, Alex Caponi, Isabel and Elora Pennington and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Minneapolis in 1920, David served in the U.S. Army during World War II and earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 1947. He was among the first physicians to embrace family practice as a specialty. For over 50 years, he cared for patients of all ages and several generations of families. He personally delivered more than 2,000 babies. David became known for his surgical skills with his patients often remarking that his stitches left no scars.
David also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School mentoring third and fourth-year medical students. Through his work at Smiley's Point Clinic he influenced many future family doctors who carried forward his emphasis on empathy, patience, and service.
Beyond his professional life, David was an avid golfer and fisherman. He took annual trips to Sitka, Alaska salmon fishing with his brother and other family members. He found joy in singing with the Adath Jeshurun choir and created award winning needlepoint projects.
