David J. Rosenthal, a beloved husband, father, teacher, and community leader, passed away at his home in Redlands after a courageous battle with a long illness. He was 73 years old.
Born on October 7, 1950, David was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many through his dedication to education, love for the arts, and commitment to his family. He leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished forever.
David's passion for education led him to pursue higher learning, and he proudly earned his master's degree in education from both Cal State Los Angeles and Azusa Pacific. He found immense joy in the role of a teacher, where he taught Physical Education, specializing in football, and shared his artistic talents with students in the field of Art. Additionally, he dedicated many years to the family business, demonstrating his strong work ethic and commitment to his loved ones.
Outside of the classroom and workplace, David was a man of many hobbies and talents. His love for painting was evident, as he created beautiful sunflower masterpieces inspired by the flowers they had cultivated in Big Bear. He also built a stunning log cabin home in Big Bear, where he and his wife Karen resided for over 20 years. Woodworking was another passion, and he enjoyed crafting furniture and various projects during his free time.
David's outgoing personality endeared him to all who had the privilege of meeting him. He could strike up a conversation with anyone about any topic, making connections and friends wherever he went. He had a soft spot for animals and devoted years to rescuing Australian Shepherds, reflecting his kind and compassionate nature.
As a dedicated member of his community, David was instrumental in creating and organizing the Sports Park at Bonita High School in La Verne, where he taught, and his daughters attended school. His commitment to youth and education extended beyond the classroom, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many students.
David was married to his college sweetheart, Karen, for 52 years, and their enduring love and partnership were an inspiration to all who knew them. He is survived by his daughter, Jenny, and her husband, Pat Dimmer of San Diego, who, along with many friends and family, will deeply miss him. His daughter Rebekah predeceased him, leaving a void in the hearts of all who knew her.
David J. Rosenthal will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, his passion for education, his artistic talents, and his boundless generosity. His memory will forever shine as a beacon of love and inspiration in the lives of those he touched.
