David Salsbery Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 22, 2025.
David George Salsbery was born Saturday, February 17th, 1934, in Scranton Pennsylvania.

Dave was married to Jean Zalaha on February 18th, 1955. They were married for 65 years. They lived in Los Angeles for two years before David was drafted by the U. S. Army.

David went to Fort Lewis Washington for his basic training and then was sent back to Seaside California for specialized training at Fort Ord. From there David went to Etain France and Jean joined him there for two years. David was a Sargent in the U.S. Army.

After France they returned to Los Angeles for five years. Jean came to know Christ through a book called 'Where are the Dead' left on her doorstep. David saw a big change in Jean's life, and he went to church with her one Sunday when the pastor was preaching on tithing. Jean thought he would never come to Christ with that sermon but at the end of the service David went down the aisle and accepted Christ as his Savior. They both served the Lord at Pioneer Baptist Church in Norwalk, California until they moved to San Jose.

David's parents moved to San Jose in 1963, and Dave and Jean moved to San Jose in 1964 to be near them. Dave and Jean had two children, David Duane and Mary Evelyn at the time. In San Jose two more children would join them, Sally Diana and Betty Jean. David and Jean have eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

David was a loving husband and father. Dave and Jean both served Christ for many years at Sunrise Valley Baptist Church in San Jose. They had many happy memories of their time spent there with family and friends.

They lived in San Jose since 1964, and Jean passed away in June of 2020. David joined Jean in Heaven on September 21st, 2025.
