On July 14, 1960, David Alan Sampson was born to Lorraine Carole Sampson and Arthur David Marshall at Boston City Hospital, as it was known then. David attended the David Ellis and the William Monroe Trotter elementary schools, the Lewis Middle School and Madison Park High School all located in Roxbury, MA. At the age of 16 David wanted to drop out of school, although his parents did not agree, he was instructed that he would have to get a job and work on getting his G.E.D– but the streets were calling him.
David wrestled with addiction for many years. He once shared that he had a come to Jesus moment when he woke up in a stolen car after a night of drinking and drugging. He cried out to God to help him. David sought recovery through a Christian based program called teen challenge. Teen Challenge sent him to Florida where he received therapy and treatment for his addiction. There, David also began to study the bible, get his G.E.D and answered God's calling to become a minister. He attended a theology school in Florida and turned his life around. He left Florida and moved to New Orleans where he connected with a chapter of teen challenge and was hired as Minister and Dean of Students.
David continued to grow in his walk with God. He wanted a wife and a helpmate and eventually married, moved back to Boston and bought a home in Brockton. Unfortunately, the marriage didn't work and they divorced. David never had children but his many nieces and nephews were his pride and joy. After the divorce, David moved to Fort Myers, Florida. There he took on an apprenticeship to become an electrician, a job he worked at until he became ill. When David took sick he had planned to relocate back to Boston by the end of the year. Unfortunately, the cancer was aggressive and it was necessary to expedite his move so that he could get the best care possible and be with family. David was surrounded by loving, praying family and friends. The doctors did all they could do but the Lord was calling David home. David loved the Lord and it gives us peace knowing we will see him again!
David Sampson was preceded in death by his Father: Arthur David Marshall, his brother Mark S. Peters and nephew Mark B. Peters. David is survived by his mother, Lorraine C. Peters, his siblings, Annette A. Hall, Jerome Sampson, Sylvia Peters, Meredith Peters, Jeanne Morris, Pastor Wanda Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins who all love him dearly.
