David Sandefer Obituary
Published by Legacy from Apr. 5 to Apr. 10, 2025.
A beloved son, father, and friend, David Luke Sandefer passed away on March 31, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on September 30, 1957, in Norman, Oklahoma, he was the cherished son of James and Betty Sandefer (Jones). David's life was a testament to the joy of family, the beauty of nature, and the spirit of community.
David had an adventurous heart and found peace in the great outdoors, particularly through fishing for bass-an activity that brought him countless moments of serenity. He also loved dove and pheasant hunting, where he enjoyed the thrill of the chase, and the camaraderie of time spent in nature. His athleticism was evident from an early age, as he was an all-state baseball player at Norman High School, later continuing his passion on the diamond at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He also played softball with his church, University Christian, where he formed lasting bonds with teammates and friends.
A true lover of trucks, especially Chevy and GMC, David took immense pride in caring for his vehicles. He also nurtured his yard, transforming it into a beautiful expression of his generous and caring nature.
Family was everything to David, and his home was always filled with joy and laughter. He loved spending time in the backyard, whether it was playing wiffle ball or cooling off in the pool with his children. He was also known to spend hours playing Nintendo, creating treasured memories with his kids. Never one to miss out on a family moment, David made sure to attend every game and event his children participated in, always cheering them on with love and pride. Another cherished tradition was putting up Christmas lights with his children, a task he looked forward to every year, bringing the family together to celebrate the season with joy.
For 32 years, David served the U.S. Postal Service, carrying on the mail route once held by his father-in-law. This role allowed him to form lasting connections within his community, forging friendships that endured throughout his life. Family traditions were dear to him, particularly the regular outings to El Chico Mexican Restaurant and the summer trips to Padre Island, where laughter and love abounded.
David was known for his sarcastic sense of humor and his generous heart, always bringing joy to those around him. He was a devoted father to his children-Ryan, Drew, and Paige-and a proud grandfather to his five grandchildren, Eli, Evlyn, Cameron, Cayden, and Noah. His love for his family extended to his father and mother, brother, sister, and his beloved miniature pinscher, Diesel.
David leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and enduring love. He is survived by his brother, James; his sister, Mary Lou; and his children, Ryan, Drew, and Paige.
He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Emily, his parents, Betty, and James Sandefer.
In this time of sorrow, let us hold David's spirit close, honoring the love and joy he shared with all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
