David E. Schaefer, age 73 of De Pere, died unexpectedly, as a result of a heart attack on May 23, 2022. David was born on August 16, 1948, in Fond du Lac to Donald and Theresa Schaefer.
He graduated from Chilton High School in 1966, during those years David was a star athlete in basketball, football, and track, earning numerous awards and often being featured in the local newspaper for his performance. David, then graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1971 with a degree in accounting. As with most things David pursued, he was extremely successful, and eventually owned his own business. He would often work 2-3 jobs to provide for his family.
On December 27,1975, David married the love of his life, Miriam. Together they raised 3 beautiful daughters and their handsome son Chad.
David was a true outdoorsman, he loved spending his free time hunting up at the family cabin, ice fishing, and gardening. His favorite hunting partners were his son Chad, daughter Kim, and his dad, Don. But David's most prized possession was his family. He loved using his woodworking skills to make beautiful gifts that would oftentimes be given at Christmas. Everyone in the family looked forward to David's creations.
David is preceded in death by his son, Chad, parents Donald and Theresa Schaefer, sister Patricia Beiser, brother Michael Schaefer, mother and father in law Winson and Marian Carpenter. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 46 years, Miriam; children, Michele (Mike) DeGroot; Andrea (Kurt) Larson; Kimberly Schaefer (Scott Dellemann); grandkids, Noah, Christian, and Autumn DeGroot, Matt Brundidge, Briana and Alexis Larson, and Harper Dellemann.
Visitation is open to family and friends at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere on Friday, May 27, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. A celebration of David's life will be held at 1:00 PM. Burial service to follow at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family with arrangements.
