Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation ServiceDavid J. Scheckel, 75, of Springbrook, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am, Friday, October 10, 2025 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Springbrook. Monsignor Roger Scheckel will officiate. Family will greet friends at 9:30 am until Mass at the church. Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota.

David was born January 5, 1950 in Clinton, the son of Florian and Olga (Clasen) Scheckel. He served during the Vietnam War in the US Marine Corp from 1968-1970. David earned a Martial Arts Master’s Degree in 1972 and also completed two Marathons in Chicago and Florida. David was a lifetime farmer and recently celebrated his families Century Farm honor. He was a man of faith and a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother. David enjoyed his time with family and close friends, playing golf, euchre and shooting pool.
Survivors include a sister, Saverna “Sis” Stemper; and numerous extended relatives.
David was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Mahlon (Mary) Scheckel, and Leanna (Loras) Kilburg; nephew Keith Lundin; great-niece Desiree Lundin; and brothers in-law, Ardell Schmidt and Eugene Stemper.
A memorial fund has been established in David’s memory designated to his favorite charities.
