David H. Schleunes, age 83 of Manitowoc, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Sylvan Crossing in Manitowoc.
David was born May 14, 1940, in Marshfield, WI, son of the late Albert and Ramona (Anklam) Schleunes. He attended schools in Manitowoc graduating with the class of 1959 from Manitowoc Lincoln High School. He then attended Wentworth Military Academy and furthered his education at University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and Lakeland College, receiving a degree in education. On March 30, 1963, he married the former Nancy Willman at St. Johns Church in Manitowoc. David taught 5th and 6th grade in Manitowoc for many years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, a professional ski instructor for 40 years, a member of the Manitowoc Elks Club #687, and a member of the Manitowoc Yacht Club. He enjoyed spending time and following his grandson's sporting career. David also enjoyed spending time at his cottage in Minocqua, skiing, hunting, fishing, golfing, motorcycle riding and walking his dog, Scooter.
David is survived by his wife Nancy Schleunes, Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law: Steve (Amy) Schleunes, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law: Stacey (Rob) Allen, Plymouth; one grandson: Dr. Scott Schleunes, Manitowoc; his dog: Scooter; one brother and sister-in-law: Galen (Ann) Schleunes, Manitowoc; one sister-in-law: Pat Willman, Manitowoc; one brother-in-law: James Davis, New Mexico; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Romona Schleunes; his sister: Sherry Davis; and one brother-in-law: Lane Willman.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Peace United Church of Christ/Lakeshore Life Celebration Center, 3613 Waldo Blvd., Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Matthew Sauer. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 9:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am. Memorials may be made to Lakeshore Humane Society in his name.
