David Schmidt Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 11, 2025.
David Gary Schmidt, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on August 30, 2025, at the age of 72, in Round Rock, Texas. Born on May 2, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas, to David William and Della Marie Schmidt. He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Della, and sisters Rene Rinn and Evelyn Stelly.

David's journey through life was shared with his beloved wife of 48 years, Marjie Schmidt, who stood by him as a pillar of strength and love. Together, they raised a beautiful family that expanded to include their daughters, Crystal Hampton and Carrie Marchese, husband Mike, and sons, David Schmidt and William Schmidt, wife Alexsandra. The joy of his life multiplied with the arrival of each grandchild: Tyler, Rowan, Kylie, Lilianna, Sebastian, Joshua, Ainsley, Declan, Bridger, Oberon, and Arwen. Each one brought a unique sparkle to his eye and a new opportunity for David to impart wisdom and share stories. David is also survived by his younger sister, Suzan Bartholomew, husband Ken, and many nieces and nephews.

David had a passion for working on computer programming dedicating most of his professional career to Texas Instruments, where his intelligence and handy nature proved invaluable. His colleagues knew him as a man who could be relied upon for a clever solution or a witty quip to lighten the mood. His work ethic and sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside him.

Outside of work, David's passions included taking to the soccer field as a coach for his kids when they were younger, along with being on the board of the RRSA for many years. His love for music was evident to anyone who heard him strum one of his guitars, pick up a harmonica, play the keyboard, or saw his massive collection of records and CDs. He loved listening to Willie Nelson, Merle Haggart, Lyle Lovett, Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel, and Reckless Kelly. David also had a passion for reading and even spent some time working on a novel.

David approached life with a blend of humor and intelligence that made him the heart and the craftsman of countless cherished memories. He was quick witted, with a great sense of humor and a speedy come back. There were also very few homework problems or home projects that he couldn't tackle with his intelligence and craftsmanship.

As we bid farewell to David Gary Schmidt, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and joy. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and the many lives he touched with his humor, intelligence, and handy skills. David's memory will be a beacon of love and laughter that continues to light the way for those he has left behind.
