David W. "Daybotch" Schmitt

David "Daybotch" W. Schmitt, age 82 of Marshfield, WI, town of Lincoln, passed away peacefully at Marshfield Medical Center on November 9, 2025, surrounded by family and very dear friends.
Dave was born February 6, 1943, at the Marshfield hospital in the city of Marshfield. He was the son of the late Arthur A. and Dorothy M. Schmitt. Dave was their third born of four children. He was preceded in death by his sister Gail in infancy, brother Neil, aged 53, and is survived by his youngest sister Amy.
Dave attended Columbus High School. Dave met, fell in love with, and married Janice Thompson of Duluth, MN on November 25, 1970. They began farming in the Granton area and eventually purchased their farm in the Town of Lincoln.
Dave was a dairy farmer for many, many years and later raised beef cattle. He was an avid farmer with many passions, especially his love for Great Danes, mules, and horses. He often provided mule and horse-driven sleigh rides for family, friends, and others.
Dave was the owner of Dave Schmitt Tire and Tractor, a business he ran proudly for more than 40 years. He also enjoyed his extensive collections of Farmall tractors and model trains.
Dave is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jan; his three children, Scott (Jana), Kelly, and Tammy; his sister Amy (Dave Heckle); two grandchildren, Stephanie and Nicholas; one step-granddaughter, Kristin; great-grandchildren Kolton and Kashton; "children by heart" Scott Hartl and Gary Schallock; and many many dear close family and friends whom he loved to converse, gossip, chit-chat, and reminisce with-sometimes for hours.
Dave did not want a funeral but rather a celebration of his life, with details to be announced at a later date.
Dave, you were a unique, caring, loving, passionate individual with the kindest heart. You will be deeply missed by so many. May "Farmall paint" forever run through your veins.
