David Clayton Shaklee, born on November 30, 1955, in Rupert, ID was called to his heavenly home on November 17, 2025, in Wray, Colorado. He was the beloved son of the late Reverend Charles and Olive Shaklee.
Peepaw, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him for the way he lived his life and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
David was the son of a pastor, and during his childhood his family moved every three years, living throughout Idaho and the western slope of Colorado before finally settling in Wray, Colorado. It was there that he met the love of his life, Twila Dickson.
He graduated from Wray High School in 1974 and, shortly after graduation, married Twila on August 31, 1974.
Throughout his adult life, David worked in several professions, including as a meat cutter and as a distributor for Mountain Man Nut & Fruit Co. He later served as a maintenance technician at Wray Community District Hospital, where he eventually retired.
David will be remembered for his constant smile, his mischievous sense of humor, and his gift for storytelling. Whether he was sharing a hunting tale or a family memory, he had a way of making every story come alive. An avid hunter who loved the outdoors and a man who loved his family immensely, he leaves behind laughter, love, and stories we will carry with us forever.
David is survived by his loving wife, Twila Shaklee of Wray, CO, his son Ryan Shaklee (Tiffany) of Greeley, CO, his son Dusty Shaklee (Makayla) of Castle Rock, CO, his daughter Brandi Sperle (Taylor) of Rapid City, SD; seven grandchildren Gavin and Nolan Shaklee, Keanan, Bailey and Vivian Shaklee, Harper and Hailey Sperle; his sister Eunice Nickels (Dieter) of Nampa, ID, brother Charles Bud Shaklee (Jeannie) of Stillwater, MN, and many other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Reverend Charles and Olive Shaklee, sister Lois and her husband Duane Stoehr, sister June and her husband John Nordby, and sister Marlene and her husband Bob Herndon.
The Celebration of Life service to honor the life of David Clayton Shaklee will be held on November 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the New Life Christian Center located at 37472 County Road R, Eckley, CO. The video will be broadcasted live by the Jones Family Funeral Home.
