David Shepherd Obituary

David H. Shepherd, affectionately known as Dave, passed away on December 15, 2025, in Edgewood, Kentucky, at the age of 79.

He was a native of Owensboro, Kentucky, and a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served as a jet engine mechanic, embodying the qualities of honor and sacrifice that characterize those who serve in uniform.

Following his time in the service, Dave’s first years of his professional journey began as a patrolman with the Louisville Police Department. He then spent 3 years in the motorcycle unit and was a member of the LPD Motorcycle Drill Team. The remainder of his time with the department was spent as a detective in the Intelligence Unit.

He then founded the private investigation firm Investigative Services, Inc., and later served as Safety Director for Williams-Legge Industrial Contracting, from where he retired.

In retirement, Dave found joy in fishing and spending time at his lake house at Rough River, appreciating the beauty of nature and the tranquility it brought him. His passions were an essential aspect of the life he shared with family and friends. Known for his honesty and generosity, Dave was an upstanding man who lived his faith as a devoted Catholic. Spending the holiday season delivering his famous homemade chocolate chip & oatmeal raisin cookies and world-renowned zucchini bread. He was as happy giving as we were receiving them.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Jerri Shepherd (nee Hurst); his sons, Tony (Lori) Shepherd and Wayne (Becky) Shepherd; grandchildren, Emily and Cameron; and his sisters, Joyce (Marvin) Brown, Sharon (Joe) Wink, and Janie (Bill) Farmer, and his very close 1st cousin Joe (Beverly) Carrico, along with a host of other family members and friends who cherished him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his father, David S. Shepherd; his mother, Mary Gertrude Shepherd (nee Clark); his sister, Sheila Casey; and his brother, Rick Shepherd.

A visitation to honor Dave’s memory will be held on December 30, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northern Kentucky, located at 4350 Dixie Hwy, Erlanger, KY 41018.

A Catholic mass and wake will be held in Louisville in the days following the holidays as a celebration of Dave’s life and honoring his strong Catholic faith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Foundation or a charity of your choosing.
