David Lee Shipton

David Lee Shipton, 78, of Sophia, passed away at home on Sunday, January 4, 2026, surrounded by his beloved wife and special niece.

David was born on October 5, 1947, in Guilford County to the late James "Jimmy" Shipton and Emma Loraine Clodfelter. After graduating from Trinity High School, David became a truck driver, traveling all over the country. His career eventually led him to a small fuel station in Atlanta, Georgia, where he met the love of his life, Beverly, whom he married and shared 35 wonderful years with. David often said, "I have diesel fuel running through my body, not blood."

A simple man at heart, David had a lifelong love for trucking, classic cars, and pickup trucks. He proudly owned a 1930 Model A, a 1965 GTO, and especially admired 1957 Chevy.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his stepson, Chris Campbell, who passed away in 2023, and his cousin, Gary White.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Beverly Shipton; cousins, Logan White, Frann White, and Fred and Myra Clodfelter; his special niece, Amanda "Hope" Mills; brother-in-law, Rick Laney and his four-legged best buddy, Rusty.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, January 8, 2026, in the Archdale Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service with Pastor Randall Macon officiating. The committal will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:30am to 12:45 pm prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David's honor to Hospice of Randolph County.
