David Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wilson Mortuary - Salem on Dec. 2, 2025.
David Clayton Smith was born April 14, 1936, in Gladden, Missouri, to Samuel and Lorine (Welch) Smith. He passed away December 2, 2025, in Willow Springs, Missouri, at the age of eighty-nine years.

David grew up in Gladden and graduated in 1954 from Bunker High School. At the age of eighteen, he enlisted into the Army National Guard and served his country faithfully and honorably for nine years.

On November 30, 1957, he was united in marriage to his sweetheart Faye Gail Vaughan at Gladden Baptist Church. Together they shared fifty-eight years of marriage and lasting memories. David and Faye were blessed with one daughter Brenda.

David started working in his teen years at Edwards Market stocking shelves and later delivered groceries. In his twenties, he worked for the Missouri Transportation Department as a surveyor. He worked his way up to designer and retired in 1998 after forty-two years of commitment.

David enjoyed keeping himself busy. He was a talented carpenter and enjoyed woodworking. Throughout the years he has built kitchen cabinets, decks, and birdhouses with his grandsons. David liked working in the yard and gardening. In his spare time, he loved trout fishing at Montauk State Park.

David was a beloved family man, who loved his family with all his heart. The time he spent with his two grandsons brought him endless joy, and the memories they shared will be held close forever.

David had great faith in the Lord and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Willow Springs. He was a true servant and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He served as an usher and many other areas of the church. For several years he was also a member of the Salem Chapter 118 Independent Order of Odd Fellow.

David is survived by his wife: Faye Smith of Willow Springs, MO; daughter: Brenda Collins and husband Robin of Willow Springs, MO; brother: Vernon O. Smith and wife Beverly of Van Buren, AR; grandsons: Taylor Collins and fiancé Rene and Tanner Collins; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents: Samuel and Lorine (Welch) Smith; brother: Clinton Smith; and infant granddaughter: Savannah.

David was strong, gentle, and very loving. He did his best to always be happy. He never complained no matter what he has been though. He will be forever missed.
