David Smock Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crevasse's Simple Cremation - Gainesville on Jan. 6, 2026.
David Lawrence Smock, 95, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, surrounded by family.

Born on July 25, 1930, in Gary, Indiana, David was the son of William and Evelyn Smock. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louise; his son, David; his brother, William; and his sister, Helen.

Dave lived a long, meaningful life demonstrated by strength, steadfast values, and devotion to his family and country. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He graduated from Purdue University in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He briefly worked for a defense contractor (now Honeywell Aerospace) before returning to civil service, where he worked for the United States Navy for 40 years.

David loved running and early morning calisthenics. He loved animals but had a special affinity for dogs. Louise was constantly worried he would run them too much. He ate healthily, shunned excess and decadence, and always found time to lend a hand to whoever needed it. He encouraged hard work and honest values. He had no patience for those who did not follow the rules.

David shared a loving marriage with his wife, Louise, for just shy of 65 years. He lovingly cared for her during her later years as she battled Alzheimer's disease-an enduring testament to his patience, faithfulness, and unwavering love.

David's life was rooted in his Catholic faith. Through prayer and quiet devotion, he lived with humility and grace, always trusting in God's plan. His family finds comfort in knowing he now rests in eternal peace, reunited with his wife, Louise, and son, David.

David is survived by his son, Andrew; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; and his cherished grandchildren, Alex, Jessica, Riley, Jackson, and Kennedy.

"I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die."

- John 11:25–26
