David Steele Obituary

Beloved husband, father, friend and mentor, the inimitable David Ray Steele unexpectedly left this world on February 7, 2023 due to heart failure. While his spirit was stalwart, his heart couldn't keep up. Dave was 80 years young.
Eager to see the world post high school graduation, Dave served in the US Navy for 23 years. A Holiday Bowl Director for 30 years, he is a lifetime member of San Diego's renowned redcoats. A pillar of San Diego's East County, he was an elected member of the Valle de Oro Community Planning Group, an active mentor with Business Network International (BNI), a member of the Veterans East County Alliance and a Board Member of the East County Chamber, where he earned the Small Business of the Year Award in 2022 for his solar evangelism as the East County Solar Guy. Dave was an active 30-year member of Skyline Church, where he and wife Sally took great pleasure in the fellowship of their Bible study and gamester groups.
Dave is survived by his wife of 36 years Sally Steele and their daughter and son-in-law Savannah Steele Ross and JJ Ross and grandsons Maverick and Sawyer Ross. He is also mourned by his eldest daughter Terri Steele, second-born daughter Lori Steele Contorer and son-in-law Aaron Contorer. He's lovingly remembered by children from his second marriage to the late Elaine (Steele) Corder: daughter Suzette Rooks and husband Darrell Rooks, their children DJ and Raymond Rooks; and son Ray Farr and wife Teri Farr and their children Courtney, Cameron and Katelyn - all of San Diego County.
In this terrestrial "at bat" known as the game of life, Dave Steele hit it out of the park. And to borrow from the legendary Jerry Coleman, "You can hang a star on that baby!"

Dave & i earned our holiday bowl "redcoats" together in 1992 and worked many events together; he was a good friend and could always be relied on.

I had the pleasure of working with Dave for about 2 years while we were trainees at Dean Witter in Mission Valley back in the early 80s. Us younger 20-somethings enjoyed hearing his stories of seeing the world while serving our country in the Navy. He had a positive impact on the entire office . My condolences to your whole family.
