Eunice~ It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of David Stephens on Friday, October 06, 2023 at Lafayette General Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was 69 years old. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. A burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Father Nick Ware, Celebrant.

Born on July 27, 1954, David was welcomed into the world by his parents Nelson and Mary Jane LeBouef Stephens. He was a devoted husband, father, and Poppa whose life centered around his family. His unwavering love for his wife set an example for all, reminding us of the profound depth to which a man can love his partner.
David's faith in Christianity carried him throughout his journey, and he held a special devotion towards Our Lady of Guadalupe. In his leisure time, he found joy in visiting the hunting lease and cherishing precious moments with his beloved wife, children and grandchildren. He embraced his role as Poppa with unmatched enthusiasm and enjoyment.
Known for his boundless love and kindness towards others, David effortlessly formed connections with people from all walks of life. David Stephens was an extraordinary individual whose love knew no bounds. He touched the lives of many through simple acts of kindness that radiated warmth and compassion. As we bid farewell to him today, we remember his tender spirit, cherished memories, and the everlasting impact he has had on us all. May he find eternal peace in the embrace of God's loving arms.   No one remained a stranger once they had encountered his warm and friendly nature. His memory will be cherished dearly by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him—especially by his devoted wife of forty-seven years, Monica A. Stephens, from Eunice.
David’s children, Jacob Stephens of New Iberia, Natalie S. Leger and her husband Kelly, as well as Michael Stephens and his fiancée Shainee from Eunice will forever hold their father close in their hearts. David will also be fondly remembered by his siblings; Charlene Darbonne and her husband Bobby of Iota, Bryon Stephens and his wife Sara of Youngsville, and Connie Gardner and her husband Mike of Iota. The six joys of Poppa’s life were his grandchildren; Sophie Vidrine, Ross Leger, Harland Stephens, Clara Leger, Roan Leger and Cal Leger.  In addition, he leaves behind extended family members and dear friends, who will deeply miss him.
Preceding him in death were his  parents; Nelson and Mary Jane LeBouef Stephens; sister Janell and brother-in-law Larry Miller, as well as his beloved in-laws Nelson and Fran McManus.
To honor David's memory, visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 10th from noon until 8:00 pm, with a continuation on Wednesday, October 11th starting at 9:00 am until the start of the funeral service. On Tuesday at 6:00 pm, Deacon Chuck Ortego will recite a Rosary—a time for reflection and remembrance.
