David Strunk, 85, of Hoffman, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the Hoffman Assisted Living Center.
David Allen Strunk was born on April 8, 1940, to Cam and Helen (Haberer) Strunk in Pomme de Terre Township, Minnesota. He attended country school for 4 years, then attended school in Hoffman until the 9th grade when he transferred to Morris agricultural school for the next 4 years. David further enhanced his agricultural education by obtaining a two-year degree through the University of Minnesota, St. Paul.
David also served in the Air National Guard, and it was through mutual friends in the Guard that he met his future wife, Sharon. On June 28, 1969, David and Sharon (Ehlers) were married at United Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake. The couple raised 4 children on a dairy farm outside of Hoffman. David milked cows and farmed crops for many years. Upon retirement, David and Sharon wintered in Arizona and enjoyed travelling together.
While in Arizona, David discovered woodworking and enjoyed volunteering in the retirement community mailroom and as a park ranger. David was an avid sports fan; he always had sports on the television and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play. David spent many mornings at the local café as part of Hoffman’s coffee crew, and afternoons were full of laughs from the locals ribbing each other in Jerome Hanson’s shop. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends and neighbors several times a week.
David was an active member of his community. He served on the boards of the Farmer’s State Bank, Cenex Co-operative, and Hoffman Elevator. David was a member of the Hoffman Lions Club and served in various capacities at Zion Lutheran Church.
Preceding David in death are his parents, Cam and Helen; wife, Sharon; brother, Keith Strunk; and brother-in-law David Nibbe.
