David James Surratt, 60 of Jacksonville, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born October 13, 1965, in Chicago the son of Richard G. Surratt Sr. and Laraine (Enault) Surratt. He married Dawn Hayes on May 25, 1991, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by two children, Dustin James Surratt and Jessica Danielle Surratt, both of Jacksonville; one grandson, Lowell Christopher McLoed Surratt; one brother, Richard Surratt Jr.; two sisters, Barbara (Scott) Knott and Christine (Shawn) McGinnis; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one half sister.
David attended Lincoln Land Community College where he received a degree in auto body and also his CDL. He later worked several odd jobs around Jacksonville from Capital Records to Ware Co Carwash, and delivery for Leos Pizza. He dearly loved his family and enjoyed attending races at Jacksonville Speedway, fishing, and watching scary movies. He had a lifelong passion for cars and all things automotive, but most of all, he loved being a grandpa.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2025, at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial to follow at Diamond Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or American Diabetes Association.
