Steven Van Camp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home on Feb. 17, 2026.
Steven "Steve" Mark Van Camp, 67, of Jacksonville, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Helia Southbelt Healthcare in Belleville, IL.

Steve was born October 28, 1958, in Quincy, IL to Charles Van Camp Sr. and Dorothy (Brown) Van Camp.

Survivors include his brother, Charles "Chuck" Van Camp Jr. (Mavis), who were also his guardians since he was the age of 14; his brother, Gary Van Camp; one sister in-law, Sharon Van Camp; one sister, Diane Lovins (Don) of Arkansas; and fifteen nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; Jon Van Camp, Regan Van Camp, Chad Van Camp, Kimberly Johannes (John), Mitchell Johannes (Jenna), Nicholas Johannes (fiancée Taylor), Matthew Johannes, Stacey Mock, Amy Van Camp, Kelsie Van Camp, Greg Van Camp, Jim Lovins, Ben Lovins (Beth), Richie Harland (Glenna), and Nicky Bosley.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Cathy Hasty; and one niece, Leanne Hasty.

A dedicated employee, Steve worked at Pathways in Jacksonville, where he was a valued member of the clothing department team. His passion for his work was evident, and he formed lasting friendships with his colleagues. Steven's love for his job was matched only by his love for his family and friends.

An avid sports enthusiast, Steve's love for baseball was unwavering, and he could often be found listening to radio broadcasts of his beloved Chicago Cubs. When the baseball season ended, Steve's passion for sports transitioned to football, where he loyally followed the San Francisco 49ers. His enthusiasm for sports was matched by his love for motor racing. From Indy Car to NASCAR, and drag racing, Steve followed every major race with interest. His achievements in the Special Olympics, where he earned medals and awards, were a source of great pride.

Steve's hobbies were a reflection of his diverse interests. He was a lifelong fan of muscle cars and hot rods, and he took great pleasure in model-building replicas of classic 60s muscle cars, as well as fighter planes. He also lent a hand to his brother Chuck in rebuilding old trucks, sharing in the satisfaction of restoration. In quieter moments, Steven found solace and contentment in assembling jigsaw puzzles, and he had a talent for black velvet painting, which brought him immense joy.

Family was the cornerstone of Steve's life. He treasured his weekly Sunday afternoon calls with his brother, Chuck, sister-in-law, Mavis, and brother, Gary. Their conversations were a testament to their strong bond and mutual affection. Steve also looked forward to their in-person visits, whether they were for special occasions like his birthday and Christmas or simply to spend quality time together.

Steve will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Friends and Family are invited to a visitation that will be Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL. A Graveside Service will follow at 11:00 am at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy. Pastor Zach Campbell will officiate.

Pallbearers will Jon Van Camp, Chad Van Camp, Greg Van Camp, Mitchell Johannes, Nicholas Johannes, and Matthew Johannes.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pathways in Jacksonville, IL.
