Michael Leezy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home on Feb. 20, 2026.
Michael W. Leezy, 68, of Barry, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Michael was born January 26, 1958, in Saint Louis, MO to Richard and Melba (Corey) Leezy.

Survivors include his six siblings, Mary Ellen Sawyers of Plainville, IL, Jeannie Unglesbee (Kenny) of Quincy, IL, Richard Leezy (Caroline) of Hannibal, MO, Terry Leezy of Collinsville, IL, Gloria Leezy of Barry, IL, and Tina Leezy (Ed) of Payson, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronnie Leezy; sister, Anita Lynn Leezy in infancy; brother Charles Leezy in infancy; and one brother in-law, Cleveland Sawyers.

A skilled metal fabricator by trade, Michael approached his work with precision and pride. Outside of work, Michael found solace and joy in the great outdoors. An avid fisherman, he relished the tranquility of casting a line in the serene waters of Washington County Lake, Beaver Dam, and Siloam Springs. These fishing trips, often shared with his father, became a source of cherished memories that will be treasured by his family forever.

Michael's passion for nature extended to his love for the St. Louis Cardinals, a team he followed with unwavering devotion. His enthusiasm for the game was infectious, bringing excitement and camaraderie to all who watched alongside him. Michael also had a profound admiration for bald eagles, a symbol of strength and freedom that resonated with him deeply. His collection of bald eagle memorabilia was a testament to this lifelong fascination.

Above all, Michael's heart belonged to his family. He was a constant presence at family cookouts, where his laughter and stories were as much a staple as the food on the grill. His love for his nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews knew no bounds, and his role as a cherished uncle will be remembered with every family gathering.

Cremation is under the direction of O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home.
